Ernest Dempsey — Hardly have animal rights advocates come out of the shock of the barbarous killing of a dog in Brazil when a new case of horrific torture of dogs has been exposed, this time from Egypt.

The YouTube video shows a group of men in the premises of a building, identified as the Veterinary University of Cairo, dragging dogs with tied legs on the ground, beating them with sticks, and stomping on their legs. Dogs captured are brought down onto the ground one by one and are treated thus, while they cry out in pain. One dog gets its mouth gagged by a cloth after being dragged on the ground.

The video of cruelty to dogs in the college area has provoked anger and condemnation as it is being shared by animal rights advocates on social media. A petition has also been launched on Change.org, expressing concern to the Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Fathy Farouk and asking caring individuals to write to the Professor about the issue.

Writing on facebook about the abuse of dogs captured in the video, animal rights activist Noor Diab told that Spare Lives, Society for the Protection of Animal Rights in Egypt, is suing the veterinary university and animal activists are holding a meeting tomorrow with a lawyer.

A facebook post also points that such abuse at the veterinary university isn’t just recent. It says that animal rights activists have been asking the university for over a decade to check animal abuse but the university doesn’t listen to anyone. But now the animal rights groups will resort to action against them.

Note: The petition asks readers to be polite in their comments to the Faculty Dean (providing the email address of the professor).

This is utterly appalling!! I am fighting back tears as I write this! These people and this so-called “university” need to be held accountable for the mistreatment and certain death of these poor defenseless animals!! Utterly disgusting!

I tried watching the video and could only watch about maybe a half a mintue before I was so sickened by what I was seeing and hearing that I just wanted to throw-up. I’m sitting here still fighting the urge to do so. These are people studying to be VETS! Good grief we have got to do something about this! Wish they could be treated the way they are treating these animals. Poetic Justice!!

SHAME SHAME SHAME. DISPICABLE. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND THEIR LAUGHING AND HAVING FUN DOING THIS TO AN ANIMAL WHEN THEY ARE STUDYING TO BE A DOCTOR TO SAVE ANIMALS FROM PAIN. THEY ARE SICK MENTALLY – MAYBE THIS IS NOT A VETERINARY SCHOOL AT ALL BUT A ABUSE SCHOOL TRAINING UP COMING ANIMAL ABUSERS TO BE UNLEASHED. END OF THE WORLD. THIS SCHOOL SHOULD BE DIMINISHED.

  • Fathy Farouk says:

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University condemns the outrageous, shameful, disgraceful act who was done by non-employed workers(belong to the animal supplier) and 2 employed workers. I ordered an investigation to this despicable behavior. Non of our students or faculty staff was involved in this terrible act. We teach our under graduate students a course called Animal Behavior and Welfare. Also, for our post graduate students we teach a course called Ethics for Using Animals in Experiments. Moreover, in our faculty, there is an animal welfare and rights cmte who’s sole job is insuring that we are guardians and not abusers to animals. However, individual acts may happen. I assure everybody that the faculty will do its very best to punish those responsible for this terrible act according the law and will do our best also that this kind of acts will never happen again. Regards
    Fathy Farouk.
Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University.

All foreigners should boycott Egypt and everything Egyptian. Maybe then when they all start to lose money, they’ll sit up and pay attention.

So where was their Allah when this torture was going on? Do you think that Allah does not care about animals? Is this what He teaches?

This is beyond disgusting. What sort of vets will these despicable people become? Who needs this dreadful behaviour in the world? Shame on you Egypt.

  • Boycott Rita Campbell says:

@Rita: what the hell does religion have to do with this, and Egypt is actually heavily Christian. The Dean is just as disturbed, enough so that they commented on a backwater nobody news blog page. It’s people like these who I’d like to see have happen to them what was described above. Such a waste of my time

  • Merete says:

Let keep together and fight for the right for animals….and let stop the money to the counties, who dont understand that the world, dont acept the ugly way,the treat animals…..Please hell the children have to care for animals

  • C Tabb says:

@ Boycott Rita Campbell: Islam teaches that dogs are as filthy as swine. Muslims are not permitted to touch dogs. You know this. Good luck to those trying to end this savage behavior.

  • Ivor says:

Lets stop all these cruelties of the world please… Grow a heart…..

  • Lisa says:

Looks more like a school for potential serial killers

  • Linda says:

If the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University condemns the outrageous, shameful, disgraceful act of cruelty, why has it been allowed to continue for over a decade?

Actions speak louder than words. Your words are nothing but garbage to cover up the filth you hide.

the poor poor donkey evil evil people it should be done to all them them

  • Susanne Maria Heck says:

aufhören. Das ist so ein Schwachsinn.

  • sandra says:

Dogs and poor donkey. They all feel fear and think. Time to evolve. Time to realize ALL beings on this shared planet matter. Would you like aliens from outer space come to Earth and say “humans are lesser. They do not think or look like us so we will torture and eat them”? That is how we, humans treat other beings right here on Earth. We must stop it now and always.
