Ernest Dempsey — There are dogs who will stay loyal to their owners even after the owners have breathed their last. Conversely, there are owners who will abandon their pet dog when changing places, endangering the dog’s life and causing it to suffer. This is what happened to Bella, a husky mix in Rhode Island whose life is at risk after her owners left her at another home before moving.

Bella, in addition to having the typical high prey drive of huskies, is not a fan of other dogs. While in her new home of under a week, she got off leash and injured a smaller dog. The original owners of Bella paid all the medical expenses for the smaller dog; however the incident led to Bella being seized and taken to a shelter in Warwick, RI. She has been there since March 2012. The town now wants to hold a hearing which they have already said was a “filling a square”, i.e., merely a formality.

The Lexus Project, a non-profit organization working toward saving dogs in danger, is representing Bella in the court. They have taken it into court to challenge the statute and the procedure. According to The Lexus Project, a caring group working for saving animals is ready to take Bella in and care after her until they rehabilitate her so that she can be placed in another home, possibly even with other dogs.

A number of attorneys are working on Bella’s case for months. In the interim, the 2nd family too has turned their backs on Bella. Animal rights advocates are joining the Save Bella page on Facebook. A number of attorneys are working on Bella’s case to help her come out of the trial. Animal rights advocates are joining the Save Bella page on Facebook. Also, a page for donations has been set up to help pay the expenses for Bella’s legal work. Although the attorneys all work pro bono, filing papers and other procedures involved, including rehabilitating, will cost at least $1000.00. Donations are desperately needed to help Bella.

Bella’s story is tragic in that her family chose to abandon her while spending months caged at the shelter has added to her suffering. Hopefully, with public support and contribution, this beautiful canine will find her forever home with the group of caring people who are ready to welcome her.

Lexus Project will not abandon her! She needs to be allowed to move to a place where she can get the training she needs

  • BELLA I WILL FIGHT ON YOUR BEHALF AND FOR ALL THOSE THAT ARE TAKING THE HEAT BLAMING THE DOG FOR THE IRRESPONSIBLE LAZY, CHEAP OWNER WHO DID THIS TO YOU.

I PRAY OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM WILL FIND MERCY ON WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN THROUGH AND THEN ALL THE STORIES YOU CAN’T REPEAT WITH NO VOICE.

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE FOR A REAL LIFE WITH A LOVING FOREVER HOME WITH A FAMILY THAT WILL REALIZE VERY QUICKLY – THAT THEY ARE UNSURE “WHO RESCUED WHOM?”

BELLA THOSE FIRST TWO TEMPORARY HOMES WILL BE THE BEST THAT EVER HAPPENED TO YOU BY BEING LEFT BEHIND AS THERE IS SOMEONE WHO NEEDS YOU THE MOST AS THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH IT THEMSELVES.

I PRAY THE COURTS, JUDGES ETC WILL NOT BE SET ON SEEING YOUR LIFE CUT SHORT JUST WHEN YOU SHE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME.

“HAVE MERCY…” AND DON’T TREAT ANY OF US LIKE BELFAST DID THEIR CONSTITUENTS.

I agree. Bella needs to be freed and have chance to live in a forever home. It is ridiculous the way animals are treated these days. too many being put down (murdered) when they don’t deserve it. We don’t need to lose any more pets because of ignorance and because certain people just want scape goats. this has to stop. they are our family members and give us unconditional love.

    • Pamela McPherson says:

I hope so too. We don’t need another Lennox or Wicca case. this dog is also an innocent one.

  • Lady Selene says:

I honestly believe Bella, and dogs like Bella, have not been allowed to Socialize with other Dogs. It’s possible she hurts them because they freighten her with their quick movements, also some little dogs jump on the big ones tp play, she may think they are going to attack her.
You have to blame the “Humans” ? that had her, they could NOT have luved her if they moved and left her behind, I don’t consider them human at all. If they have children, and they do something wrong will they abandon them also? Probably so.
Bella I wish you all the best, you CAN be trained, you WILL be LUVED as you should be <3

    • Pamela McPherson says:

I agree. She needs someone who will spend the time with her and give her lots of love too, a forever home is what she deserves.

The owners of Bella need to be going on trail instead of Bella,if they would have been responsible and found Bella a proper place to live none of this would have happened in the first place.they should be banned from ever owning another dog again.instead Bella will have to pay the ultimate price while these jerks just walk away.karmas gonna get you,and nobody will care.you can tell how people treat humans by watching how they treat animals

    • Pamela McPherson says:

I totally agree. They just abandoned a beautiful, loving dog. Hope they don’t get any more pets. they obviously don’t care about animals. to have done something so cruel.

  • Sandra Williston says:

Both the original family and the second family are despicable for having abandoned Bella!!! What horrible people they all are! Little wonder Bella is confused and acting up after being left homeless, not once but twice by the very people who were supposed to love and care for her. I agree with Steph M the owners should be facing court not Bella! They should be charged with animal neglect and abuse for abandoning Bella and putting her life in danger. Karma…..

Out here in Contra costa COunty California they have a “Potentially Dangerous Dog” ordinance. Even if your dog did not bite somebody, merely the accusation that your dog did so, even if your dog in playing jumps on someone who claims they didn’t want to be jumped on, they are put on the list. After three violations the dog is at minimum neutered or put down.
My German Shepherd became a way for some obnoxious neighbors who I was in a dispute with over their blocking my easement to try and get back at me. They completely trumped up a dog bite that never happened, then tried to collect from my homeowner’s policy. Fortunately, my insurance company believed me and paid them nothing and the case went away after two years.
The plaintiff has a history of engaging in fraud. But for a while, I was sweating bullets with the County over this stupid ordinance. The Lexus Project needs to get ordiances like this removed from the books across the nation.

  • Samir Dost says:

RE the little dog killed. While I sympathize with the loss of the small dog, these little breeds are fearless (and stupid) when it comes to encountering bigger breeds. I can’t tell you how many times my GSD has been confronted or even once attacked by lap dogs. In most cases he just ignores them and tries to play with them, but the owners of little dogs also need to show responsibility.

THIS IS BULLSHIT THIS WAS MY DOG MY MOTHER MOVED OUT OF THE HOUSE AND I STILL LIVED THERE SHE WAS NOT ABANDONED SHAME ON YOURSELF I TOOK CARE OF THIS DOG EVERY DAMN DAY. Also the Lexus Group is a bunch of mental cases who wanted my mother and sister to illegally steal the dog back from the shelter. Whoever wrote this should reevaluate their lives I’m sure your family isn’t perfect either I love my dog and MY FAMILY went to walk the dog everyday. What about the Lexus group? They sent a walker one time in the months she was there and then she went “missing” very odd. Do your research before writing a bullshit article. Also we did find Bella a new home with a boy named Bobby but the city of Warwick wouldn’t let us adopt her without him getting proper insurance. AND Bella never had a second home… She lived with me until the accident and then she became in the custody of the animal shelter.

  • Helen Pucino says:

WE NEVER ABANDONED OUR DOG SHAME ON ALL OF YOU.

  • Helen Pucino says:

Six months and they sent a walker one time psh and you think the Lexus Project is good. We were there every damn day.

  • Helen Pucino says:

DID THE LEXUS GROUP TAKE BELLA TO THE VET WHEN SHE WAS SICK?! NO MY MOTHER DID

  • Helen Pucino says:

AND AT YOU LADY SELENE WHOEVER YOU ARE MY MOTHER IS A WONDERFUL PERSON AND MOTHER AND WOULD NEVER ABANDON ME OR MY SISTER.
