Last month, the Journal of Humanitarian Affairs published the story of Luis Ortiz of Alamo, Texas, who was shocked to find his beloved
canine friend Mijo killed brutally near his house. He was denied justice as the police refused to pursue the case allegedly involving a religious minister who admitted killing Mijo but claiming self-defense. Now, Ortiz has found new meaning in the bond of kindness and care as he saved a small pup from possible death in his town.
Ortiz came to learn of some pit bull puppies born to a pit mom in another part of his town. The owner is said to be unable to afford raising them so the pups were about to be sold. He went there and got one of the pups while another one was adopted by one of his friends. He had to give immediate care to the pup, 2 to 3 weeks young, who was weak and sick, not vaccinated, and not even strong enough to walk steadily. But now he had a home and a name—Junior.
“I immediately took him to the vet and had him get the vaccinations he needed. Once I brought him home, I feared that he was going to die so I kept a close eye on him,” says Ortiz.
But the pup was still not out of his earlier suffering. He couldn’t take the food his new owner offered and began throwing up. Worried about Junior’s life, Ortiz started searching for the right food for this new guy. He tells:
“I looked online and found out that puppies will always want to eat some Blue Buffalo puppy food. And boy did he eat a lot of that food!”
Soon Junior’s coat started looking better each day and his skin and bones started to fill in. Now, he is a healthy, happy pup who likes to play with his owner and creating some fun moments in the house.
“Now, it is very hard for me to find my boots because he picks them up and then hides them from me. I think he does this because he doesn’t want me to leave the house,” says Ortiz. He tells that his life has been transformed positively by Junior’s arrival as he is still in recovering from the trauma of Mijo’s murder.
“I don’t think I would ever want another pet again. I still miss Mijo very much and think about him every day, and I think Mijo sent Junior to me to save him while helping me heal too.”

Awwww! Mijo sent junior to help Luis! What a sweet story, and happy ending!
No vet would vaccinate a sick 2-3 week old puppy. This is erroneously reported or somebody lied to make the story more compelling.
Why?
I took him to Petsmart and that is where he got vaccinated. I have all his vaccination records and and even the vet there knows the story of what happened to Mijo. I do not see why you would think I’m lying nor do I appreciate it either. This story is about how Junior is helping me cope with the loss of Mijo so arguing over this is very disrespectful. You want proof? Send me an email and I will be glad to send you a copy of his medical records.
Luis, I am so glad you have a beautiful furbaby. I followed the awful story about Mijo and cried for your pain. Junior will never take Mijo’s place, he will make his own place in your heart. Have a wonderful life Luis. And give Junior a big kiss from me and my furbabies.
Chris, You need to move on to another subject. Luis went thru Hell and no one would help him. Now he has Junior and life can only get better.
awe..I love this story!!The puppy is so cute!
Congrats Luis. I’m so happy for you and Junior. I followed Mijo’s (love that name) and your story, prayed for you and turned away every Jehovah’s witness that came to my door after sharing your story with them. I wish you the best of luck. Ignore people with negative comments who miss the point of the story (@Chris) and feel the need two share cents and garner their 15 minutes. You don’t need to justify, explain, or prove anything to them. They are not worth the energy you will spend being annoyed. Good luck and God bless!
*share their two cents
Congratulations Luis, I’m so glad to hear you gave Junior a forever home, I read and cried over your story about losing Mijo. I hope you both have many many happy years together xx
Chris, you can give the puppies their first shots. It’s not a big deal. Breeders do it so that they don’t sell sick puppies. Get over yourself.
Luis, I am sorry for you loss. If there is a God, the minister will pay when he departs. There were so many options, killing him shouldn’t have been one of them.
