First the article says a ‘child’ was bitten another says ‘a teenage volunteer’, they can’t even get that straight.
When anyone travels with dogs, THEY GEY CRATED!!,my God this is a rescue – where is common sense???
If u sign an animal over to an Animal Control place u just assume that the chances of any animal making it out alive is almost nil.
The woman was totally at fault for the death of this puppy, just as much as the Kent County Animal Control.
Poor Toby.

I agree. Why on earth were these dogs being transported with children in the car. Were the dogs even crated? It sounds to me that the mother of the child should be the one in trouble. Child endangerment come to mind. Because of her ignorance, Toby is dead. Never given a chance. Hope this haunts her forever, but it wont bother her. Stupidity causes death!!! Sounds like there was a lot of stupidity was going on. My final word is this. Duh!!!!!!!!

I agree with Samantha on all points and am very impressed with Ernest’s dedicated efforts to save this dog and his writing. I ask everyone to share, share, share his work so that the public knows these immoral acts are going on. Ernest’s writing is devoted to getting the word out to everyone. This magazine is simply a vehicle to do good.

This dog was euthanized for biting, having been surrendered by the rescue director. Not for being a pittie. The Kent County Animal Shelter adopts out pitties on a regular basis (see link). There is no such state law in Michigan banning pit bulls. None. Here is one just adopted from this shelter. Check it out:

The only thing we know for sure is that Toby was murdered…another innocent animal put to death because all involved didn’t take the time to do what they were suppose to…make sure Toby was safe.
If you are the director of a rescue don’t you know when you are transporting an animal (especially to a strange place)you should crate them. Shouldn’t you read every line of what you are about to sign and not assume anything? Shouldn’t the Kent County Animal Control make sure everyone is on the same page so things like this do not happen? Again…another poor animal murdered……

Toby was young and there was a trainer willing to work with him. So, what’s the point of killing him? There was none. Animal Controls all across the country need to put forth a concentrated effort to work WITH local rescues instead of against the to ensure that only the animals who are an actual threat or are too sick are put down (in a humane way) and those who have the potential to be loving, happy pets are given a chance at a good life.
